Default best £5 I ever spent.

Setting off for Venice a couple of weeks ago I thought it would be a good idea to get some European recovery cover. I am insured with Bennets and had 1 month to run on the policy. They added cover for the month which cost £5.

We had a grand time over the Alps, into Austria down to Venice back up and through the Dolomites (best bit) then I clipped a kerb at low speed but it spat me off and broke the front wheel and radiator. 1300 miles from home and only just below the snow line I wondered just how good my policy would turn out to be.

40 minutes later a recover truck arrived, a few hours later a taxi took me to the nearest town where a hire car awaited, I dropped this one off at Calais and picked up another at Dover which I took home to Derbyshire. When I asked where to drop it off I was told it would be collected.

The downside was I was told 2 days later that RAC does not cover accidents so I would have to pay for repatriation of the bike. The bikeguard policy however does mention in the European section numerous times what they do in the case of breakdown or accident. I am only TPFT insured or Bennets would have picked up the bill. Anyway after several days "discusion" we agreed to go half way on repatriation costs, £280 is a fraction of what it would have cost me any other way and for a fiver I reckon I have about had my moneys worth. Having said that I have been paying out for 20 years without accident or claim.
