What are peoples thoughts on using the SV for big mile touring. Is it capable and could you stand it in the saddle for long periods, fuel economy etc. I am talking about using it to tour France and Spain etc.
Has anyone done it? What were the let downs with the bike? |

Two up or solo touring?
It would be perfectly possible to do it - look at the guy who went round the world on an R1 for example - but there are other bikes it would be more comfortable to do it on. |

Ive the gel seat on mine, done 2700miles in 2 weeks to france last yr
Enjoyed every second (unless it was raining!) ![]() dont get me wrong, The wrist can ache a little bit, as does the butt area But it literally takes 5 mins off the saddle to shake that lot off.. Another thing you might want to consider is the cruise control handle attatchement thingymajig (£5odd) Makes long dual carriageway mile muching bit more bearable on the wrist imo cheers mike ![]() |

I live in Reading at the weekend and work in Newcastle - I regularly do 300 mile trips (600 miles a week) on my naked sv. You soon get used to it - I don't even have a screen or gel seat.

The bike will do it no problem as long as you've looked after it. I did 2000 miles round France in a week with no problem with the bike but after it I was shattered. My ass and writs hurt! In fact for about 2 weeks after when getting on my bike my wrist still hurt.
I do about 8000 miles a year on my bike so ride it quite often. My advice is to go out at he weekend and have a bloody long ride. You'll then know how you'll cope. As for the mile range after about 140 miles riding you'll be ready for a stop! |

I have only had my Sv650s for a couple of weeks and found that around the towns I will get about 125miles to the tank and on nothing but motorways I have had 170miles to the tank. I find that the palm of my hands hurt after a little while, but I am sure that there is a way around that, if anyone knows let me know please! If you are going 2 up then you may need a gel seat for your pillion. My other half gets a very sore bum after 100miles or so.

I did 2000 miles round the UK and hte only issue was the front spark getting damp setting off. I found no problems with the seat and was loaded with most of the camping stuff attached by cargo net. Did find my wrist hurt after 700 miles.
On the longest days i was on hte bike for about 4 hours , lunch break then another 3/4 hours. |
