Fitting an after market can - how?

I know this has probably been done a fair few times but i wanted to start my own thread so it would be easy for me to find.

Anyway...

I have a 1998 sv650 (not the s version just the standard naked one) and the end can has a few dents and scuffs not too bad but could do with replacing. I thought why not go for an aftermarket can.

So i looked around and found you need to cutthe origional pipe.

So this thread is for two things.

Firstly how easy is it to cut and put on a can i dont want to make a mistake and ruin the system so does anyone have a guide or tips on how to do this.

Secondly has anyone got any reccomendations for an end can that sounds good looks good and doesnt cost the earth. Also something that is road legal so no problems with police or m.o.t etc etc.

Cutting the exhaust pipe is surprisingly easy, just go steadily with a decent blade, after marking carefully where you want to cut, and taking care to keep the cut perpendicular to the pipe.

If I recall, you need to cut 50mm backwards of the weld.

My end can was about £60 all in, and was a factory second from Motad on Ebay. I couldn't see a fault to be honest, although I can't recall whether I MOT'd the bike with it on.

I can recommend a Beowulf Warrior. They are affordable, sound awesome and they have a lifetime guarantee. The other question I can't help you with I'm afraid.

Hacksaw or angle grinder to cut original pipework,remember, measure twice, cut once.

Took me 45 minutes to fit a Fuel end can to my naked curvy (great sound). Angle grinder was very easy. Lots of sparks so cover the bike up first with a blanket and be careful to shield the swinging arm.
