Had a bit of an almost incident yesterday on the way home from work, some tool in a van pulled out of a side road in front of me. Managed to get it pulled up from 50 with about 1.5metres to spare (completly s**t myself) but I was a bit enthusiastic with the back brake and now the rear tyre has a flat spot I could feel on the rest of the way home. Is the tyre now out of balance and scrap etc, or will it round off and continue to be usable?

Hard to tell without seeing it. It would take one hell of a skid to flat spot a tyre enough to make it beyond economical use.

He he. Nice one. Have you considered a good burnout to wear the rest of the tyre down?

Note: during my wheelie school I noticed the instructoor had a bike stood nearby with not just a flat spot on the rear but a mahoosive hole in the tyre going right through the tyre including the steel belts. When questioned he said he'd done the most almighty skid down a runway and that was the result. Cupid stunt(er).
I reckon given some mileage it'll even out. Balance is only really for comfort/to stop vibes and if you've felt the weight of a tyre on it's own I can't see a little flat spot doing much to upset it. |

Cheers for the advice,
Been out on it a bit this weekend, it does seem to be rounding out a bit so hopefully a couple more decent rides and all will be well *I had considered the burnout ![]() |

I'd spend a bit of time on a decent straight piece of road learning how to use the front brake efficiently and how to brake hard without locking up the rear. Sounds to me like you aren't using enough front and are too hard on the back.
