Default Looking to get started in minitwins from 2011. just a couple of questions...

As the title suggests I am looking to get into minitwins ready for next year. I have spent a lot of time reading the forums and am now quite confident on what I need to do to my little SV to be competitive.

What I am wondering is how I go about choosing a club to race with? I live between coventry and mansfield (nottinghamshire) and would like a club which uses tracks that aren't too far away (cadwell, mallory, silverstone, donnington, rockingham, darley moor, snetterton etc) but i would also like a variety of tracks and competitive racing.

I've been looking for a website that gives information on different clubs but I cant find anything useful.

Could anyone make some suggestions? all advice on any aspects of getting set up is greatly accepted.

Motoforum is one place to start, but remember you don't have to race with just one club. Pick a circuit you really want to race at, then see which clubs race there and where else they go.

Bemsee seem to be the best for the Minitwins series with the rookies, juniors and MRO guys all getting on the grid in their individual classes. They also have a good selection of tracks to visit including Silverstone this year. (Brands being the best in my opinion)
North Glos and Thundersport GB also run Minitwins although not quite as well supported as the Bemsee meets.

Cheers

cheers. I had narrowed it down to either bemsee or thundersport, perhaps even in the gp2 class of thundersport. I like the idea of having a variety of machines on the grid.

My lecture told me bemsee is expensive though, but it has been a while since he raced

i am also considering it , however the cost is seriously steep, i found a race experience( weekend racing, tuition, bike hire, eve4rything paid for, acu and race licence all in for £500 wich temped me as a starter and taster of what it consists of.

All the clubs are pretty similar for prices to be fair, and the MRO race at Brands got very good TV coverage. I did notice that the NG Brands meeting the riders were treated to 10 lap races.

The SV is a great bike to race and is relatively cheap to run and purchase, but racing is not a cheap hobby.

I'm racing a minitwin with NG they are a good club very friendly and there was a good grid of 23 minitwins only on the grid which i prefer, then you are all on a level playing field and get a good rythm going. If you are in a race with different types of bikes you find you have different speeds at different parts of the track personally i find this a bit of a bother.
But Bemsee and Thundersport are very good options and the costs are very similar, you just pays you money and makes your choice, it's all good on a minitwin

Hi Liam, if you have a couple of spare days at the end of the month pop along to cadwell, thundersport are racing there on the bank holiday weekend. Most folks i've met in the paddock are usually happy to chat about their set-up and, and they've been a really friendly crowd to go racing with. Would give you a chance to see how it all works and get a feel for what goes on in the paddock on a race weekend. Fingers crossed it doesn't rain like at Snett this weekend.
