I'm looking for my first bike and am wondering if an SV650 is the one.. I found a 2000 with 30k miles. What I'm wondering is if that's considered high mileage. Also, the bike is completely naked, would it cost a lot to put a front fairing on to make it look a bit sportier?

IMO 30k is starting to get up there, but the condition will depend on the servicing to date and general care. If all is well then the mileage isn't an issue.
If you want sportier - look at the S models. Cheaper and easier IMHO. Sportier again - look at pointy's. |

There are lots of SV's out there. take your time and 'TRY' to buy with your head not your heart. There will be some right dodgy ones and some minters too. Go and see a few and even go to a dealer to see a new one so you can spot anything wrong.

wot they said. i've got a 99 with 36k on the clock and the engine is sweet, although it has been regularly serviced.
if it is a naked version then it'll be a reasonable bit of work to put fairings on...quite a few folk have gone the other way, removing fairings to make it naked, iirc the clocks and lights need changed as well as wiring loom and possibly other stuff. take your time and look at a few and you will find a good reliable one. have a look at the for sale section on this site. go for a curvy rather than one of those fugly pointies..... |

Not much point shopping on here from Wilmington NC
But as said they are good for a bit of mileage.Buy the best one you can find and if you want a faired one buy the S version with it already fitted.

Well my budget is pretty limited and I don't want to spend a lot on my first bike since I haven't done a lot of riding and I just want a starter which I'll probably trade after 6-12 months.

e.g. If you will be riding a lot on the Thruway, to work for example > go faired. If more weekend fun and twisties > either will be fine. Have you seen THIS site? Not that I want you to go away, but you'll find US specific content. Last edited by RichT; 21-07-10 at 09:15 PM. |

30k is not high, you can get a bike cheaper if you look for one with a few more miles on it. Like any engine, as long as its been serviced it usually fine.
General Gripe: WTF is it with people thinking that bike engines are so special and need to be pampered! |
