Default Moving to Cambridge area

Hi

Me and my missues are moving end of August as she has got a job in Cambridge teaching at the regional college (science park area).

I will still be working regionally around the south east so still need to be able to get to the M25 within an hour or so...

Was looking at Cambridge / Cambourne / Saffron Waldon / Newmarket areas.... Anywhere else you guys recommend?

I presume this is the correct forum for Cambridge?

Looking forward to getting onto these roads and back upto Linconshire quiet roads!!

Hi Cheifrick, yep this is the forum for Cambridge.

There are many nice areas around cambridge, Does your missus drive?

I live in Hitchin, Cambs is about 40 mins drive to Trumpington( park & ride). M25 about 20-30 mins on either the A1M or the M1, depending on which way round you need to go.

Are you buying or renting?

Good luck with your search.

I'd suggest staying a few miles out of Cambridge (assuming your wife drives). If you're as close as Histon the house prices are silly, so a little bit further out makes sense. Cambourne is OK if you like that sort of place (brand new, less character than a lot of the other villages around), perhaps give Linton a shot. Equally, I'd be more than happy living in the villages to the west and south west of Cambridge.

Yeah she drives (and rides! - CBT licence) so driving is not a problem and there is ample parking where she works so no need for buses/trains. She would like to be withing 45 mins to the Science Park, I think we looked at Linton, some nice places down there.

Thanks for the replys, think we need another trip over to look around!

In which case I'd definitely recommend from west to south of Cambridge on the compass. South east side doesn't have quite as good access. North side is good but silly expensive unless you're happy up towards the fens. Some nice places around Ely, like Witchford, Sutton, Haddenham etc.

Traffic going to CRC is mad in the mornings. I take an indirect route because its 10 minutes quicker.. The staff car park is always full well before 9, if she doesn't get in there she'll have to take her chances in the student car park I think. And I've seen plenty of students drive into steel bollards etc... However if she's on a bike, she'll have no problems with traffic there (and parking).

Thanks for the responses and suggestions guys, we have found somewhere... a little bit futher out but we liked the house.

Potton, Nr Biggleswade, about 20 miles for her to CRC and easy access to the A1 for me to get to the South East.

We move in around the middle of September, so hopefully get to meet up with some of you at some point!

Royston is a good bet. Reasonably cheap to buy, good links to the A1 and M11, train line to London and Cambridge. Also got a couple of good pubs.

Potton is nice, on a good biking route too (Sandy -> potton -> wimpole -> cambridge). Good luck with the move.
