You're right its an expensive job, but not to hard to check the clearances yourself so you'll know if they need doing or not.

How many miles has yours done

Haven't done mine yet but as is usually the case it's getting at the buggers through all the plastic that's the time consuming thing and fairings never seem to go back in quite the same way as they came off, although maybe that's just me!

Good morning all.

We charge 2 hours to check them, & up to 3 if they all need adjusting.
You will most likely be charged for any shims that need replacing, & for coolant. Due to having to remove the radiator to access the front cylinder.

Cheers.

Are there any telltale signs that valves need adjustment or is it a silent death trap to a broken engine?

I ask becuase I should be getting mine checked (dont know if they were checked by last owner(s)) but I am skint and time to check it myself is against me...

Should be done at 15000 mile intervals, but unless its trashed, then shouldn't need doing. Maybe the odd one.

Won't lead to a broken engine, but just one that doesn't perform as well as it should. Won't idle well, and top end will be noisyer.

You will need a set of feeler gauges, tools to take the cam covers & raidiator off, replacement cooling fluid for afterwards and a socket to turn the crank over to get the cams at TDC. Take spark plugs out too

You will need a haynes (or similar) manual to show you how to do this, if you haven't do it before

Ah ok, I'm only a little over at 23k or something.

No problems that I know of but I'll sleep a little better til I can get them checked (either by a garage or when I have time)

Think I was quoted £120 if they all needed adjusting.

Where from? My SV is on 13000 and I will be taking up to my flat soon (Sheff Hallam student) so could do with getting it all done.

Anyone you recommend from the Sheffield area? I live outside the Sheffield United stadium

It won't idle at all if the valves burn
