Default What a place!

I have to hold my hands up and admit ive always given north wales a miss, in favour of the lake or peak districts. Mainly due to but also because the one and only time I ventured over the border to Bala I wasnt really blown away with the roads.

Well did this route a few days ago:
http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=d&so...5,2.694397&z=9

and have to say some of the best roads and scenery i've seen! The A4086 especially was fantastic, takes a bit for me for to slow down and enjoy the scenery but I was more than happy to just trundle round there! And lunch near Caernarfon castle, larverrrly. Route had a bit of everything and apart from the slightly dull bit getting to Abergele and then back home from there, oh and the "interesting" bit of the A548 complete with gravel loved every minute. Thing that struck me was the lack of cars and even bikes out, the sun was shining most of the day and virtually had the roads to ourselves. Reminded me of Scotland.

Needless to say I will be clogging up your roads frequently from now on any suggestions/alternatives to the route we did would be much appreciated

The back roadd from just below Oswestry on the A483 to Bala over the Berwyn mountains. Rode that earlier this year on a route sorted by Ed, awesome bit of road. They are the B4391 and B4396.

Llandegla Moor, just after the A5/A494 junction nr Corwen. It's the A5104 and runs to the A55 at Hawarden (turn right off here and it goes up to the Ponderosa) A542.

Hey I bet you enjoyed the M53 and the road through Ellesmere Port

I was wondering how could you not like the roads around Bala... then Mr UKI beat me to it.

Next time take the A483 to just below Oswestry, turn right on the B something or other - Mr UKI identifies it - you go through the fabulous Tanat Valley and up over the tops, dropping down into Bala. I always stop for a coffee at Bala and then go on on the A4212 around the top of Llyn Celyn with that fantastic left hand bend although I think the road is even better coming the other way. This road is 19 miles of motorcycle perfection, brings you out at Trawsfynydd, turn right for a fast and furious ride to Portmadog.

Turn round and across the rickety wooden bridge at Penrhyndeudraeth (Mike have I spelled that right) and into Harlech, on via the Welsh equivalent of the Pacific Coast Highway to Barmouth. Great fish and chippery there. On towards Dolgellau, another great road, turn right onto the A470 and over the top of Dinas Mawddy and down the other side - fabbo glaciated valley but watch the speed as there's often a mobile camera at the bottom. Sometimes disguised as a horsebox Stay on the A470 until the roundabout at Malwyd.

Hoik a left onto the A458. I guarantee that you will never have ridden a twistier road Some of the bends are exceptionally sharp, care required. Stay on for 15 - 16 miles, left onto the A495 through Meifod, after Meifod stay on the road for a few miles and then right onto the A490 towards Guilsfield for the Guilsfield twisties, these are good for 80, left onto the B4392 (handy fuel station at this junction in the middle of nowhere) through Guilsfield remembering to slow down for the raised zebra crossings Stop for a Coke at the Royal Oak pub.

This road brings you back onto the A483, just below where you started

It's a fantastic ride. I promise that you won't be disappointed.

Something like...

http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=d&so...34589&t=h&z=10

I've avoided the main area you've done. Plenty more to explore however.

He! He! See what you've been missing? My only advice would be to get off the A55 at Hawarden or Mold to get on the good roads early.

Haha highlight of my day! Turning off at Hawarden looks good to me.

Ed your route seems to take in most of the roads the others mentioned. Only thing is from where I am it comes in at a nice, round 300 miles early start 1 day methinks!

I did 320 on Ed's rideout to Abersoch. But that did start at Shrewsbury, which took up 60miles to get there from Macc. Awesome day though
