Default Restrictor and suspension question

Hi All,

Just a quick question.

My bike is ECU restricted as i was told by the guy i bought it off. He also told me that the guy who did it, did it in such a way all i need to do is pull out a couple of wires and then i have full power.

Any one heard of this and if so what exactly do i do?

Also just wanting to ask can anyone recommend a tweak for my suspension, i feel like the front end wants to fold sometimes through the corners.

BTW my bike is a 2004 sv650s, all standard settings, with dunlop 220 tyres.

Any other tips for a fairly new rider would be great.

Thanks for your help in advance
Paul

Are you sure about this? Typically the restriction is effected by changing the unit that controls fuelling and ignition, or by fitting restricting washers in the inlet rubbers so as to limit the airflow to roughly 1/3rd of full throttle.
Also, are you still on a restricted licence? If yes then removing the restriction can have some serious consequences - but I'm sure you know this.
I know the law is silly, you know the law is silly - but it's still the law.

Hi

I am indeed aware of the law, and my two years is almost up. About the only person I know who kept it in for 2 years.

It us defo bot the washers and throttle restrictor as it was on the bike and then the guy I got it off went and got it done properly. Have all documents saying it's 33 bhp. Still the guy said two wires and boom full power.

Any ideas on checking and setting up the suspension?

Thanks

Well back from a ride out there,

checked tyre pressures and they were badly out, so set them to 33 36 to begin with and will play about more later. Feels so much better now, bike leans far easier and the front doesnt feel like its about to wash away.

I also took off the seat and looked at the ecu, check the serial code as i read some were that if the serial code is MGT 060 is a non restricted, or if it is the MGT 061 it is restricted. My serial number on my ecu is the MGT 060.

So it is the unrestricted ecu, but it is restricted and it is not by the washers and throttle thing. As i have them as they were on the bike fitted my previous previous owner, with the most recent previous owner going and getting it electronically restricted. THats the guy who told me 2 wires out and the thing will be unrestricted.

Any ideas any one?

Hi Guys,

I know this is quite an old post.

But i have turned up a few things about my restrictor.

I found out that my ECU is the full 70bhp one.

But that i have an inlet value on the bike that restricts it instead.

Does anyone know how to remove one of these?

Also any ideas of suspension adjustment will still be gratefully accepted.

Thanks
Paul

Cant help on the restriction, but with the suspension you can adjust the preload settings on the front forks, or buy some new fork springs and heavier oil or go all out and fit a gsxr front end.

There will be washers in the intake tract, and a piece of metal to restrict throttle movement. Take airbox off to remove washers, you can then see throttle stop too.

How much do you weigh? Stock bike is very undersprung.

Thanks dude for the advice.

I will have a look there for it. I also read that the inlet value may also be below the throttle bodies. Is it hard to get to there.

Well at the minute my bike is set up as the SV650s goes as standard. I weigh around 12 and half stone. Depending one what i have eating

P.S. Metal head what preload settings do you recommend? I kind of get the feeling that the bike is going to lowside on me in the middle of the corner when am leaning over.

Setting number 4 is standard for the S. I wouldn't go any lower than that, and at least is easy to change.

When you mean you wouldnt go any lower than that, does that mean that you have yours set higher?

What exactly does it do if i adjust the preload to a higher number?

Thanks
