Default A684 or A65?

Right guys your hopefully able to help me out here.

I'm trying to get from Glasgow to Harrogate without using Motorway I have most of my route sorted but the only dilema I have is do I use the A684 or do I just blat along the A65.

Or if you can give me an even better road from kendal to Harrogate I'll use that.

Thanks in advance for any helpful advice that can be given

I hate the A65, over policed and boring. So definately the A684 through Sedbergh, Hawes, Leyburn, and the the A6108 down to Ripon and A61 to Harrogate. The Yorky lot may know better route down from Leyburn, but will charge for the information.

^^^what he says, the A65 is not great

http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=d&so...14548&t=h&z=11

if you have plenty of time go down through Kettlewell, Burnsall, Barden Scale, Blubberhouses. I usually do it the other way round though. Very twisty turny, up steep bits, down again, ya get the picture, but not too pleasant when its raining.
Hope the link works to give you an idea.

So the A65 is out

Time hopefully shouldn't be an issue. I'm leaving the house at early o'clock in the morning and have the whole day to get down, I don't intend to stop too much either. Only worry is I keep looking at gradually more and more roads, I thought about doing the Hardknott Pass while I came through the Lakes (been reading BIKE for the first time in years)

Definitely avoid the A65. I hate it with a passion!

I did the A684 through Hawes, Leyburn and Masham yesterday so I could avoid the A65. It is a fantastic route, miles better than the A65.

And while you're in the area, you may as well do Hardknott and Wrynose.
