my mum-in-law's car failed its MOT the other day with corroded brake pipes. as the place where i get my MOT's done is only a test centre i took the car to a local garage i know. job was jobbed and i took car for a re-sit only to be told that the garage has replaced the wrong brake pipes.
booked car back in today and the job was done again. we had a good old laugh about the pipes this morning and even said then its an easy mistake and to not worry about it. got to the garage and got the wallet out ready to pay. but to my surprise i was charged NOTHING. i was surprised the first time round when i was only charged £60. but to have them do the extra work for nowt was a nice gesture. |

To be honest if it were their mistake then I would expect them not to charge me.

Brake pipes cost pence, so no big expense. Just a bit of labour to fit. Anyone who charges big money for making up and fitting pipes is either robbing you or you have a poorly designed car.
Most garages are honest, staffed by hard working skilled technicians. If you go to places that are designed for taking money of the gullible, staffed by glorified tyre changers, expect to be robbed. The staff haven't a clue and assume the punter is equally as thick.

See! We're not all bad.

much prefer the smaller garages where you can strike up a repetoire with the mechanic, and he knows what he is talking about. Some of the main dealer garages I have been to, you never speak to the same guy twice, none of them seem particularly clued up or interested and half the time they end up telling you some absolute codsh*te and charge you double the price for the privelege.
