Is is really bad for my bike - being caught in a down pour. Is there anything I should be aware of....rusting etc.?

Watch out for tsunami's, they're a real bu99er.

Seriously, rain isn't too bad. Its the salt they put on the roads that you need to wash of as soon as poss.

Bikes are designed to be able to be ridden in the rain so no major harm will come in the short term. Salt, as previously mentioned, and not being able to dry out are two of the bigger problems (putting a wet bike under a non-breathable cover will accelerate rusting and furring of brightwork)

It was speed up the rusting process...don't be scared of it though. Some of my favourite riding times have been in the wet.

dont be afraid of the wet. I prefer wet riding as it takes a lot more concentration and relaxes me more

It will speed up the process if constantly soaked and the salt should be washed off (with cold water) after every day in the cold months.
Buy some anti corrosion spray (fs365 or acf 50) as the fall back

I don't mind riding in the rain, one of those things that the more you put it off, the more difficult it becomes. Just make sure you wash the salt off the bike in the winter and it will be fine! I am gonna get some ACF50 for mines for the winter

You don't really have much choice though up in Scottieland!
Surely its either ride in the rain, or don't ride at all! lol

I've used my bike through two winters on roughly a daily basis, except when there was snow, and the down pipe and quite a few of the bolts did rust up pretty quickly. I tried to get the worst of it off, but it's just something I've had to put up with as it's not a dry weather only bike!
