Are you getting a slight glow of the main beam telltale? On my K3, the earth failed for both lights and on dipped beam I'd get a very faint glow in the bulb, and the telltale faintly lit.

Anyhoo, I'd check the earth to the bulb (and if you have a multimeter the juice going to it in the first place).

im getting nothing at all from dipped beam, but switch on main and that part is fine, so can only guess theres a problem with the dipped side, just had to put tape over the lights to use in the morning as not to blind everyone..! i did try a mulitmeter and i get a lower reading than the main light, is that normal or should they be the same? thanks for any help guys!

i would start with the earth then look for a 'pinched/ rubbed away' wire in the loom

If everything else works, then it's not the all encompassing 'earth' fault - if it were then the high beam wouldn't work either as the same 'earth' (it's a neutral or negative), is used by the high beam too. If all else is functioning then the problem is in one or more of the following:

The dip switch itself.
The white* wire from the dip switch to the fuses.
The white wire from the fuses to the bulbholders.

Check the connections and the cabling itself in the following manner;
Turn the ignition on and the dip switch to low beam, put a meter across the battery negative and the fuse terminals for the low beam, (take the fuse out and put the negative meter probe onto the battery negative, then put the positive meter probe into the fuse holder terminals one at a time). One fuse terminal is the feed from the dip switch and should give battery voltage, the other terminal goes to the lights and will give no reading.
If the results are as above then the dip switch and the wire from the switch to the fuse are OK, which means the fault is in the wiring/connections from the fuse to the lights.
If the meter gives no reading from either terminal at the fuse then the problem lies in the dip switch itself or the wiring from it to the fuseboard.

*Thinking about it it's posisibly white/blue, I can't remember everything already!

Nice one I'll check it out, I put a multimeter on the dipped bulb connecter
And I think I'm getting a low reading, any ideas?
I get full 12v on main.

I had a friend who had this problem only a couple of weeks ago, on his bike it was the main connector to the headlight loom which is just behind the clocks, must have been some arching going on, the connector was looking rather toasty.... but we wired it in outside the block and all was well. We checked everything before this, even had the switch on the handlebar in peices to see if it was a problem with that, but no lol Id check that connector block if i was you
