I have a curvy and wondered whether to upgrade to a pointy. Are there any noticeable characteristics between the 2 engines - smoothness, power differences, fuel consumption etc. Also are there differences in the riding position?

Pretty much identical engine wise, minus the carburation; not rode a pointy personally.

Theres no difference in terms of handling or fuel consumption. You might find the power delivery a little smoother on the curvy than pointy. The pointy will feel like it has a little more go, certainly seemed to me to spin up the engine a little faster.
The riding position is different, you sit in the curvey where you sit up higher on the pointy and its a little more wristy, but I prefer the riding position of the pointy over the curvy TBH. I wouldnt see the pointy as an upgrade either. The only real reason IMHO to change would be if you prefer one over the other looks wise. Or if you just fancy a newer version with less miles on it than what you currently have. The main real difference is the cosmetic one TBH.

The youngest Curvys are now 9-ish years old, the only realistic benefit in changing to a Pointy is that you stand a better chance of getting a younger, better condition bike. There's no shortage of Curvies, but there's no arguing that there are more, younger Pointies.
In use and ownership there is no significant difference between the two.

Thanks for the advice. The reason I was asking was to get a newer fresher model(I was talking about the bike). My curvy has had a couple of drops and although been patched up, looks a bit of a knacker. I still like riding it though.

Had this conversation today. I'll be looking to get the thou maybe next summer. That's if the wife doesn't veto it....
