Default Cab sir,

I have just been to try and pre-book a cab for Saturday night to collect 4 people from a dinner dance.
Time------------12.45a.m. so very little traffic
Distance --------29.7miles,three routes that is the longest but quickest
Travel Time------45mins max

Sorry sir but as it is only one way and an after midnight collection that will be

£75:00

Guess who isn't having a drink.

Possibly I live in a different world but I did think it a bit steep.

That's good I reckon.

If I'm out on the pi$$ and get a cab home, it's approximately £12 for 1 person to do 3miles.

One or two years(lifetimes)ago when I first fetched up in London I went cabbing for a while. That journey would have cost about £20 then. These days its all heavily regulated for your health and safety which costs a plenty so fares seem to have become extortionate. The price of the "You cant be too careful"culture perhaps?

Perhaps it's because of the area you live in.
I recently booked a cab to go to Heathrow at silly o'clock in the morning, the journey is approximately 21 miles and it cost £28, one way obviously.
Reputable long established car company, all recent vehicles and well kept, so £75 seems very steep.

it cost me 25 quid for the last taxi I got between 3 of us. It was a hackney at 3am and it went; to the sticks, into redneck country and to mine and that was an easy 15 miles

Or just move up north where everythings cheaper. Taxi from hook train station to Odiham camp, (hampshire)halfpast midnight, 19 quid.
Taxi from wakefield to ackworth (West Yorkshire) 8 miles, 1am, 14 quid. Go figure.
