Default Heat?

How do you keep heat in your tyres in the cold weather?,drop the psi a few pounds, not enough to affect stability, so the tyre flexes a bit more and generates heat. The amount of adhesion lost with cold tyres is quite high and apart from the obvious[Slow down] I just wondered how people manage their tyre grip in these cold conditions with normal road tyres.

I do not ride myself in these conditions and just being curious how others coped.

It is very difficult to get any significant heat into your tyres at this time of year. This is the time of year when touring or sport/touring tyres are actually better than full on sports tyres, because the sports tyres need heat to work. Did a late october trackday at Oulton Park two years ago which was VERY cold and opted to leave my Conti' Road Attacks on rather than fitting my spare wheels with Super Corsas on. Although the track was only damp (even had a drying line in places in the afternoon) most of the guys who had wets left them on all day as they are easier to get some heat into. At the end of my sessions my tyres barely had the chill taken of them!

Yeah down to 29/30 or something. Much lower on the Storms and they squirm a bit. But TBH I'm not riding at the moment and don't have much urge to with an inch of slush on the road outside.

On just cold clear roads they are fine like that, they get enough heat into them to be predictable but not enough to really be called sticky.
