Default Wooton Bassett bypass?

So: the mealy-mouthed men from the Ministry want to do away with this.
The show of support for our Troops at W.B. must be an awful thorn in the sides of politcians and ministry wallahs, after all - they didn't invent it. Lyneham closing is a real bonus to their sort, who wouldn't know a dignified deed if they saw it.

Whats the issue? I'm not up on this one, are they cancelling a bypass cos they're angry, is Lyneham closing? I must be living in a shed. If Lyneham is closing perhaps they don't need a bypass, it may have been part military sponsored as that's the best way to the M4, if the base is closing that may have fallen through?

My bad wording - sorry.
No, it's NOT a bypass as we know it. It's just that ' they ' are putting a stop to the W.B. show of support.

Well why!

Its been the repatriation route from the base since the 1950's and is the quickest route.
The people involved say its the first place anyone is able to pay respect to the friends, family, the fallen.

Where did you hear this? AFAIK, the only thing that's changed recently is that the flocks of TV outside broadcast vans have been prevented from parking in the high street.

Not true, the bodies land at Lyneham, and are taken to John Radcliffe hospital in Oxford for post mortem examination. It's far shorter/quicker to land at Brize Norton, but the landings moved to Lyneham when the Brize runway was closed for work/resurfacing. Brize has been open for years now, but they never went back there after the parades in Wootton Bassett became popular.

Again, not true there's plenty of space in Lyneham itself. It's just that the Wootton Bassett British Legion decided to make a big show out of it all.
