Default help needed to remove gear shift lever

Hi guys
Sorry if i'm missing sth very obvious, but i'm trying to remove (and change) a broken gear shift lever on my SV650 k8. I followed the instructions in my Haynes Manual, however i think they refer to an earlier model. On mine i've got to the point of removing the footrest assy (with gear lever attached), however, now i can't see how to remove the gear lever itself. There doesn't seem to be a screw or nut to undo. Please see atached pics. Do i need a special tool for this?

Many thanks for any help!

remove the c-clip and it should slide right off.
you might need a c-clip tool but you might be able to get away with prying it off with two small flat screwdrivers.

Yup,

Had to do this recently and a c-clip tool made a ten minute job into a 1 minute job. Definately worth the investment otherwise you could be fiddline around with prying it on and off and it flicking off all over the place.

Should you wish to purchase a tool for the job they're called circlip pliers. In this case they are external circlip pliers, as opposed to circlips that sit inside circular housings, unsurprisingly thses are called internal circlips and require internal circlip pliers.

But if you're careful you'll be able to remove it without the correct pliers by levering it off, when doing so just make sure you don't expand it too far - if you do it won't grip it's fitting groove correctly when you put it back and it may remove itself in the future.

Thanks a lot for your super-speedy replies!

I'll look into getting one of those tools - will no doubt be useful in the future, possibly when i next drop my bike! I spent today changing the indicator and clutch lever, and hoped i would get the gear lever done as well. Oh well...

Thanks again guys, your help is much appreciated!
