Default iTunes help

Despite having the thought of "I probably shouldn't do this, as it will all go wrong...", I went ahead and did a 'factory reset' on my iPod (30gb Classic - an antique now, being over 5 years old). I won't bore you with the reasons why I did it.

All lovely.

Except now when I try to sync it with my iTunes, it's only copied a handful of the tracks over onto my iPod.

I got an error message saying something like "cannot sync - required folders cannot be found" - and it listed 5000+ tracks that it "couldn't find".

Agh! They're all there on my computer, I've not changed anything at all, it used to sync with no trouble.

Please can someone help me?

Are the tracks its trying to synch showing in your itunes library ?

If so, right click on one of them and choose "get info" it'll then IIRC show you the folder path that the mp4 files its looking for are saved to. Copy that path into an explorer window or navigate through to my computer and see if they still exist on your computer.

If they do, try reimporting them back into itunes again, Go to the file menu and choose "import file" or "Import folder" if theres more than one and then try the resynch.

Problem isnt with you ipod, its with your itunes library itself by the sounds of it...

Hello lovely - try using the iTunes online helpy-chatty thing. It's free and they fixed mine when it did that.

Yeh, I'd try this first, then I would restart my laptop (it has worked for me in the past!!), try again, then failing that, I would be getting in touch with iTunes support type peoples!

Do you have them backed up anywhere???

This has given me a timely reminder I should back mines up....

Thanks all for your hints and tips. I've managed to get it to synch okay... although some tracks are missing and none of my playlists have transferred across, but I think that's more to do with the fact that there isn't quite enough room on my iPod for all of the tracks in iTunes. Time for a cull. Or a new 160GB iPod!
