Default Crash helmets and cinemas

So- went to my local Odeon today and saw Tron:Legacy. Thoroughly enjoyed that.

But on the way in I was asked to leave my helmet at the desk. I was told that it would be safe and the desk was always manned. Wasn't comfortable about it but complied.

Got out again to see the lid sitting on the floor by the desk in full view.

So- not only could someone random have claimed my lid (fortunately I had a friend with me to be a witness that I left it there), but if it got kicked or knocked, the safety of the lid could have been compromised.

When I asked a supervisor about this, she said that it was to ensure there were no blockages to passage in an emergency (they assume it'll be kept by the owner's feet). Yes- bloody health and safety.

I kindly pointed out the theft/safety considerations above and asked that they have appropriate facilities to keep it safe and secure.

Apparently, they should have kept it in a side room and it's possible someone new was on the desk. Not too convinced of that.

While I was relieved to see my lid there again, it's not very good, is it? Coupled with the sheer cost of going to the flicks now, it does seem to put me off going there again somewhat...

Not good mate, i dont think i could have left my lid to the unknown. If its a safety thing then what about these giant handbags that i always seem to trip over in the cinema isles are they not also a danger.

No chance I would be leaving mine there.

I'd ask them to remove guide dogs as well if that was the case... but thinking about it, why would a blind person be going to the flicks

Got asked to hand my Arai over in the Jobcentre to the security guard!

Admittedly the sight of me in leathers is a bit scary but i would never have thought i looked threatening. I was NOT impressed!

Seems a little draconian, last time I went to the cinema on the bike, we parked up right outside the entrance, wandered in kitted up and paid. No one asked us to move the bike, hand over kit or even be quiet while we got out of bad weather kit. I don't look particularly scary, but the wife can look like a real hatchet faced murderess when crossed, so that could be the reason! After the film, we wandered out and climbed back on the bike and chatted to another patron about how good SV's are.

Maybe you need a less thoughtful and more scary look when you go out!

On another note, say you pay £500 (looking for a replacement for wifeys lid and was shocked to see it was well over £400!) for a really good lid and then some numpty takes it from you and drops it in the office while you are watching the film. Who pays for it? Did you get a receipt for handing over a potentially expensive and fragile piece of kit?
