Thats what i was thinking, also some sort of plastic scraper (maybe the kind of stuff they use to remove bath sealant)

Stick with a blade and maybe some WD40.

I use a old scraper.

No not a decorators tool. An engineers scraper. The sort of tools that proper engine builders use. Then again it must be 30 years since I last scraped a bearing.

I have a chisel that I ground to make it sharp and use that for stubborn bits but mainly use a Stanley knife blade and patience.

Squirrell_Hunter has one of these:

But I don't really like it.

Tim I don't like proper scraper on gaskets, too easy to take an actual scrape. Then again dunno what you will take scraping ally, probably a thou or so with a firm scrape.

Same reason I don't like blunt stuff, I wrap a bit of shim stock round the back of a razorblade and some tape to protect the pinkies. I find it gets in between gasket and ally very easily.
