The documents the Telegraph have seen, if true, put a completely different light on all this shabby and sordid affair. Turns out that Brown and his government actually advised the Libyans on how to secure al-Megrahi's release. Doesn't it stink. What a bunch of feckin liars. Prince Andrew doesn't emerge smelling of roses neither. And even the Queen gets a mention.
Incidentally isn't it interesting that this story doesn't appear anywhere on the BBC news website. Not even on the Scotland page. Hmmm, wonder why that might be. Who has leaned on them. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worl...ie-bomber.html |

C'Mon they let him go so they didn't have to take things through court again, it was the easy way to shut him up... Do you honestly beleive he did it? Or was he just a scapegoat?

I understand that the behaviours of the government are never straight forward and are highly questionable at times, but in their place would you turn round to these countries and tell them to shove it, knowing that the repercussions to your own economic stability would suffer unimaginably.
If the UK as a country stopped courting all those countries that provided fuel and oil what would the consequences be as a country? I am under no illusion that these sorts of trade-off´s happen far more then we would like to acknowledge and certainly this one is going to be highly notorious because of the immense loss of life involved in the Lockerbie, and political implications that has with us and America. The UK might stand up morally as a better country and be far more transparent in its trades and industry (OK taking out the arms industry as that is another discussion). Sadly though as a country the UK wouldn’t fair very well. Without oil and fuel coming into the UK wouldn’t that leave the UK in an unprecedented state of disrepair both economically and socially? |

It's the state of the world that sometimes you have to deal with d*ckheads and sometimes you even have to be nice to them to get what you need.
Personally I say we should shoot such savages and steal their country. Did us perfectly well the last few hundred years.

I have said before and I will say again, there is NO WAY in a month of blooming Sundays that Kenny McAskill made the decision to release Megrahi on his own. Brown and Obama deny any knowledge and state that it was McAskill's decision but he simply would not have gone ahead with it without the nod from those two. If they have done it for trade/economy purposes that are justifiable, then why the hell can't they just come out and say that instead of having to lie about it and make up stories? Do they honestly think we are all bloody stupid. I know that for the people of Dumfries and Galloway, and to be fair pretty much the rest of Scotland, this whole thing does not sit well. |

Some people are unable to see the big picture and much as it pains me to say it, that is why we have politicians... not that they get it right all the time, but the times that they do are not publicised anywhere and neither are the consequences of what they have managed to avoid or disarm during their time in office. |

But he didnt release those grounds for appeal and its been a year or so now.In fact part of the "deal" was he had to drop his pending appeal to get released on compasionate grounds, thereby silencing the "he didnt really do it" brigade.I wonder why. I remember the time very well,as an American neighbour I knew vaguely cancelled their flight. That flight.
