Default Snowboards

Been a few times and rental costs are just silly, thinking of getting my own board, bindings and boots.

Not going this season so not in a rush, shall I wait until summer for a good deal, I imagine there are some good second hand deals to be had out of season??

Anyone know the best brands, I only know Burton, K2 and Salomon but not sure which others are good quality?

depends what sort of boarding you want to do...general mix, only downhill or parkland stuff (stunts).

I'm a big heifer who can't jump so i've got a downhill board. I've got big feet too so have risers on the bindings so i don't catch my toes all the time. the board i have is a nitro, good quality stuff. i've got flow bindings which is a bit of a contentious snowboarding issue, a bit like the old curvy/pointy debate here (obviously flows are great and curvys are best)

may be an idea to go to a shop and fish for advice before buying second hand, although you may get a real good deal at a shop

have a dig about http://www.snowboardclub.co.uk/ that is full of useful info and discounts if you join up, has a good forum too

cool, thanks. I'd be doing mostly piste stuff but wouldn't want to limit as the last time I went I did have try a few jumps in the snowpark. Think I'd like an all rounder really

If you are interested I have got a decent secondhand snowboard for sale.
Can also supply the bindings and a set of boots if you are a size 9.

I bought the board secondhand and put in for a full service straight away. It has been used just once since then so is in great condition. The bindings are burtons ones too I believe and the boots are Vans Encores and are in near perfect condition just a tiny bit of colour washing onto the white bits when they get wet.

They are these: http://www.kateskates.co.uk/productd...&x3=2142577930

Can get some pictures of snowboard and bindings if you are interested?

What size board is it? Got a pic of the design? I'm a size 10/11 boot but bindings are usually 7-10 aren't they?

Think it's 158 but will have to check. Will check and take pics in the morning if that's ok?
Bindings will take any size boot. Talking about boots I just double checked and the boots are actually a size 10.
The boots have that quick release and tighten mechanism which is great! Also the are really sturdy but comfortable.

Think I need a 162, 158 is a bit small. If you've got a link to the board online or something that'd be good, don't go out of your way to take photos as I don't know if it's the right size

I'd recommend a Bataleon board the triple base is awesome much harder to catch an edge and therefore great for confidence.

I have a Goliath.

Other boards I have had, Palmer bit stiff for the level I was at at the time, Bataleon EvilTwin good but too short for all mountain and Bataleon Fun.kink (good but not as good as the Goliath I already had). Also tried lots of other boards Burton Dominant was the best of the rest but that was back in 2009.

Dont get suckered into which has the best picture on them.

I did have a pair of Vans encores but didnt get on with then I have 32 lashed now and I like them but boots really are personal preference and are probably the more important bit of kit you can get. When trying boots have them on for at least half an hour and walk round the shop to get a good feel of them.

I have Rome (top of the range but cant remember the name) bindings but again personal preference previously I tried Flow (hated them not stiff enough), the Binding Vans used to make good but highbacks werent tall enough and an lower version of Rome which just weren't comfortable.

You can try stuff at TSA's at snowdomes at Castleford and Hemel for free, Snow n Rock usual charge for demo at their domes Chillfactore, best to try before you buy methinks.

I was a newbie 2 years ago looking for a good package, I was recommended Burton for board and bindings and theyve done me proud I like boarding in random conditions now so am looking to upgrade to maybe a Lib Tech Banana or one of the Never Summer boards.

Also check out Salomon, Gnu and Forum as you cant really go wrong with their boards. I've heard that the K2 Illusion is a really flexible, forgiving board for beginners. Decent price too.

For bindings, i've just christened my new Union Contacts last week in France. Really impressed. The Flow bindings are supposed to be the quickest and easiest to get out of, handy if you fall over a lot Rome also make good bindings.

Boots wise its entirely upto you, whichever fits your feet best. Definitely try as many as you can before you buy. All the same brands do them like Ride, K2, Rome as well as DC, Celsius and I ended up getting a pair of 32 Lashed

Enjoy
