Servicing Forks with Abba Stand

Hi all

Should be getting an Abba Stand very soon, so naturally started thinking about the tasks I have been meaning to do but have out off due to lack of stand.

One such job is a fork service - oil change, proper flush old out etc.

Does the Abba Stand on its own give enough lift (assuming I weight the back) to get the forks off? Or will I need another jack/prop to get it up high enough?

Plenty, just put a block of wood under the engine just behind the oil filter, or pop some rawbolts in the floor so you can put a strap over the back seat.

With them on abba stand they naturally rest nose down.

I'm really interested to see what the oil will look like considering I dont think it's been changed in ~25k and 8yrs!

please tell me you mean the fork oil hasnt been changed in that long and not engine oil?? haha

There was an SV curvy for sale on ebay that had done 60k and never been serviced since the 600 mile service! Apparently it still ran alright ish.

Just a point to note about propping the front end up on a Abba stand. Either ensure the bike is pointing down hill slightly or chock the rear wheel. The stand is designed with the weight of the front end staying down on the ground. This keeps the bike nice and secure on the stand. When you lift the front, you are transfering weight further back which is some instances can cause the bike to rock back on the stand. There is then a possibility the bike could actually roll off the stand.

I only lift the front of the bike just enough to take the front wheel off. I have a lump of wood cut to size for the purpose. I also have a brick which I put under the rear wheel and put the bike in gear so the rear wheel is still resting on something and is effectively locked in place, not allowing for the bike to roll back at all.

Another reason to buy an NWS stand.
