On looking at the ACU and regional club websites, it's clear that you have to be a member of a club to enable you to apply for an ACU licence. I have to say that other than that, the information provided is at best, limited.
Is it simply a case of joining a club, having your application sanctioned and signed by them (complete with eye test statement) and applying to the ACU - licence in the post for an intermediate novice? It's a few years since I last considered this, but I thought attendance at an ACU training/accreditation day was mandatory? Is this no longer the case? If so, can anyone recommend a club between Humberside and Scotland, saying why they are good? I live between Germany and the UK and quite fancy racing in a mini twin series. Thanks in advance to all in the know! |

you still need to do the CTC course before you can apply to join a club and for your ACU Licence when you apply you need to submit with your club application and ACU application your Completion Certificate for the CTC course if you look in the Road Race Regulations On the ACU website you will find a local club there and if you are quick maybe sit there CTC course and do all your applications at the same time http://www.acu.org.uk/Resource/ACU-Handbook.aspx also look over the whole website http://www.acu.org.uk |

Hi there,
i'm just putting bike together for the start of my second season-so 12 months ago I was going through exactly what you're going through right now!! Dont worry-it's all worth it!!! You're right. first you have to join a club-i'd recomend the NEMCRC-they were fantastic with helping me through everything. The bunch of us in Minitwins have a great time-the crack is fantastic and the racing is very competitive without being too mad!! If you contact the club-just go to there website-it's quite straight forward. You will need to do an ACU seminar-I did mine on a Saturday morning. Go to an optician for the eyetest thing. The club will then help you with the ACU form. You send off all the guff and get a road race licence back!!! Our first meeting this year is at Croft 9/10 April. If you need any more advice PM me and I can give you my number. TC #252 |

Thanks for the prompt, clear and helpful answer. I'll get straight onto those links now.
Maybe it's me, but I thought that the ACU site in particular would have a huge, obvious header to the affect of 'HOW TO GET YOUR RACING LICENCE - STEPS ONE TO THREE - HERE', rather than having to trawl through the regs, maybe to encourage people, rather than put obstacles up! Thanks again. |
