Ruling just through that its discrimination for gender to be taken into account when quoting for insurance.
Now just to wait for some bright spark to bring Age discrimination into it. Aparently it means womens premiums going up rather than mens coming down. No shock there. Welcome to equality ladies ![]() All comes in December 2012

Being an old git I have no problem with the ageism suggestion, set the levels for each type/model of vehicle, pass your medical and providing they give you credit for all the NC Bonus you have earned, possibly increasing the current 60% level by another 5% BI-ANNUALLY up to 80% max
i.e. Sit and pass your test at 18 and by the time you are 25 and incident free with a clean license you are on maximum 60% discount. WAIT A MINUTE ISN'T THAT HOW IT WORKS NOW? ![]() |

Equality is a wonderful thing.
Careful what you wish for - you might just get it.

About bliming time i say!
£360 for a 1.3 is well cheap for a male at 18 owenski...I was paying £1200 for a 1L austin metro that was over 10 years old that i bought for £75... all the ladies in my year at sixth form had relatively new seicentos / fiestas etc worth at the time a few k and they all paid roughly half, based purely on gender. Will i get the thousands difference refunded after all this unfair discrimination? NOPE! All well and good giving '60% discount' but when your base price is double that still makes a big difference! Reminds me... I got pulled over in the Austin metro one night around Christmas by coppers looking for drink drivers - all well and good and thats fine as getting the numbers down can only be a good thing (and being teetotal it was never a worry...) but the copper used the pretence that they've had reports of a car matching my description joyriding around the town which i'd just told him i'd come from. 1) There were about 4 roadworthy Austin metros still left on the roads in the uk at that time as they'd all corroded into dust and 2) have you ever tried to joyride a 1.0L metro? cause more havoc on a kiddies trike! SO yes back on track. Well done european court (Never thought i'd say that!) |

What about people who are discriminated for staying in a 'high' crime area? How far will these rulings go?

I think this is pathetic. The premiums are based on risk, nothing more, nothing less. Statistically, while women crash more often, they crash at much lowers speeds and the value of their claims is less. Men crash less, but cause far more damage. This is not a matter of sexism, it's empirical data.
The thing men should be concerned about is their pensions. When you buy an annuity it is based on how long you are likely to live. Men die earlier so their fund doesn't need to last as long, meaning they get a larger pension, and women live longer so their fund needs to be stretched, giving a lower pension. This ruling means men will get less out of their pension which coupled with the fact that our insurance premiums aren't going to go down, means we're getting the smelly end of the stick with this one. |
