Default brazing on radiator?

I've got a radiator that has had the brackets broken off, the bottom two that take most of the load are steel so I've welded that but I don't have a tig welder so I can't do the top. I've brazed ally with silver solder before but never anything supporting a weight like a radiator

has anyone done it before?

Yep, me

Brazing is pretty much like soldering, just higher temp, different material.

The area has to be spotless, I mean proper clean, I used to use brazing rods with built in flux then add some extra flux to be safe.
Get it cherry red but not glowing, warm the area around it as well as just the area your brazing, it will flow nice if it's clean, hot and fluxed.

I've got some brazing rods in my garage if you're passing

Didnt know it was ally, he said he had silver soldered ally before but not braized.
I didnt know you could braize ally, in fact i dont think you can because of having a lower melting point than the brazing rods.
There is different rods for ally.

I have some robs left I think, I've done silver soldering before on cast but nothing on load hearing, the spot wells on the brackets have corroded so its a clean break

There's Company in oxford or newbury called technoweld who do a special rod, can't remember the ins and outs of it but its meant to be **** hot on ally, 18 quid for the rods tho so more worth paying to have it tigged

I use the term brazing liberally, its really a soldered mess but it works

You can get ally brazing rods which require low heat.I did the rad on my Triumph and it has been good as gold since.

Take it to someone who knows what they are doing if you don't. A radiator is just too expensive to screw up.

I don't know what they're worth for the SV, but the new radiators on my TE cost about US500 plus shipping. Too much to mess with.
