Correct me if I'm wrong, but if you've got a curvy, then the restriction would be with the carbs not the ECU.

Not for an 02. The restriction on 99-02 carbed bikes is done either with washers or with different carb plungers (called piston valves in parts fiche).

SV650 (other known aliases: SV650 Naked or SVN) - available in both curvy and pointy guises the naked doesn't have an upper fairing but instead has a retro looking headlight - to differentiate between the two, look at the frame and style of the tail...

SV650S "Curvy" - manufactured 1999 to 2002, also known as a "curvy" or a "Curvy S"

SV650S "Pointy" - Manufactured 2003-2009, this is the pointy "S"

SV650 Sport - Manufactured 2006-2009 (they only introduced the "sport" version in 2006 if i remember correctly?), this is the same as the "pointy s" but has a lower fairing and a plastic seat "Cowl" where the pillion seat should be (along with the grab rail removed, and clever little "infills" to fill the gaps....). No mechanical difference between the sport and the "pointy s", just a bit of plastic
Note: Pointy lowers will fit any pointy (2003 to 2009)... You can also get lowers for curvys & same rule applies)

Hope this helps

It's can't be an 02 bike and a K5, the numbers are not compatible. A K5 would be a 2005 bike with fuel injection and could have a 33bhp ECU fitted. An '02 would be on carbs which have modified internal parts fitted to reduce power.

Unless someone has transferred a cherished 02 plate to it.

You don't need to spend £600 anyway if it is ECU restricted, just get a £50 secondhand ECU from ebay.
