My SV is due it's 7.5k service. I've been flicking through the haynes manual and and the majority of the items it list seem nice and straightforward, apart from carb syncing.
Is it very difficult? I notice I'll need some vacuum gauges, are these expensive and any recommendations? |

Thanks, just looked at that, I can get one for around £60.
How much should a 7.5k service cost? I'm debating doing it all myself, it should cost around £100 for the parts and a vacuum gauge. I guess a garage would charge more than that? |

nipple without resorting to pulling the carbs off. the trick there is to reach between the front of the front carb and the frame to just be able to touch the nipple cap with your fingertips, then use a long flat blade screwdriver from below to pry the cap off. once you figure how that works, its just acouple of (long) minutes kneeling and hugging the bike in not the most dignified fashion. can be done with the fairing on, too. or you could pull the carbs off. as for vacuum gauges, i used a diy balancer made of a stick and some clear pvc tubing. i believe it's more accurate than a set of cheap vacuum gauges. there's plenty of instructions for that on the net. oh, and i even have a cr@ppy picture! ![]() |

I haven't sync the carbs on this bike yet, I springs to mind that if it is so difficult to reach the vacuum nipple on the front carb, once you finish would it not be possible to leave a small length of pipe on the nipple and put in a plug then cable tie it out the way. Next time it will be just a matter of using a connector piece to the vacuum pipe?

I never found it difficult once the radiator was pivotted forward. Baby hands maybe lol.
