Default Sad day at Woodford

The last two Nimrod MR4A aircraft have been decommissioned and have just left the hangar to be cut up and used for beer cans. That's the last ever aircraft to leave these historic hangars. A list which includes iconic classics built here such as Avro 504, Anson, Lancaster, Vulcan, Nimrod, HS748, BAe 146 and many others. Not to mention all the other types modified here over the years.

Here's a coupleof pics of happier times with the MK4:

Thanks for sharing them Ratty, am also an aircraft enthusiast. A sad year with the Harriers and now the Nimrods gone and even more importantly the jobs of all at Woodford. How much longer has Vulcan XM603 got left? I just hope some useful items are saved for the other surviving Vulcans when she meets the scrapman. .

No news on XM603 yet, but she's looking very sorry for herself. I think most of the good spares will have long gone. I'll let you know when I hear anything.

A very sad day.

And one that, in future years, I am certain we will regret.

That's sad, an aircraft with a great history, (albeit it got a bit of a wobbly start!) and with a certain brutal charm about it.
It's even got a beautiful and evocative name - why don't we name stuff in that classical way anymore?

RIP Nimrod .

Unhappy Re: Sad day at Woodford

I was at Woodford today and saw one of the pair being towed across the airfield to meet its fate, a sad end
