Default Dead bike...ignition barrel issue?

As some of you may know i crashed the bike a while ago but its been working fine since so nothing to do with the crash. Rode home the other night and all was fine, went to start her in the morning and nuthin!!
No lights, no dash, nothing at all.

Spent the last couple of nights wiggling wires and connectors and now i think its the barrel as it feels a little stiff in there. Ive sprayed WD40 miracle cure and even that didnt make it work, lol. On trying to turn it to the steerign lock it was really stiff.

So ideas please good folk, gentle merry men and lady garden owners.

Do i bite the bullet and buy a new barrel (where, how much?)

Do i spray an entire can of WD40 in there while shagging it with the key?

All the above?

Any decent ideas other than those?

Your helps are most appreciated

A very unhappy Spidey dude

The barrel isn't the switch, if the ignition key can be turned to the appropriate position then even if it's stiff it's not the problem. WD40 etc down the key hole may help that problem.
Electrically speaking your problem most likely lies elsewhere, can you turn the key to 'park'? If yes and the lights come on then the live supply to the switch is present. Check that first if possible, after that a meter will be needed to find where in the circuit the fault lies.

Yes the key can go to "park" and still nothing mate

As you know i have a meter...but as you also know i have very little idea on what to do with it other than check the voltage on the battery. God i wish i knew how to use that thing properly cos if i had your skills with it i'd not be posting this now, lol.

Checked all fuses, battery is brand new just before the crash and still working perfectly as i took it out and put it in BBC's bike and brooom! First time.
How the heck are you supposed to get to those block connectors in front of the air box on a pionty? I took the top of the airbox off but still very tight in there. Do i need to take the whole airbox off?

Thanks for the replies so far guys

One of the main connector blocks at the front is my guess.

Is it going to be the good old starter relay issue again? I first thought it was connections around my headstock as if you wiggled them for long enough everything worked then found the real source after breaking down loads of times.

Green box behind your infill panel under the seat is the main relay with a 30amp fuse. Try all the connections to that and see if it works?

Its a pointy one so the mainrelay is under the seat, right? I remember it being under the panel on my old curvy or is there another dastardley thing under the panels on a curvey i aint spotted yet????
Yikes.

Stig, im guessing you're right but i hate electricals at the best of times, ie when they work!

Ive shorted across the relay terminals and that makes the bike make a noise and the starter motor tries to turn too, dunno if that helps to diagnose it more.

Pookie, thanks for the link, i did read that thread last nigh...just not as far down as the pics lol
I'll look at that tonight and keep my fingers crossed that the elecrticals fairies are messing with the same bits on my bike and not some random bits.

Thank again guys but keep the ideas coming if you have any others

If shorting the starter relay didn't make the motor spin, I'd say you've got a flat battery, unless you just shorted it out with weedy wire, try a screwdriver. The fact it's not doing anything off the key may be that it can't even flick the relay over.
