So I just called Swinton who insure my SV to find out how much extra I'll need to pay on my policy to change from the SV to the GSXR. Firstly, my current insurer AXA wouldn't even quote, so the next cheapest was some random company I'd never heard of who wanted just shy of £800 TPFT with a £600 excess!
I can get insured on it for £300 TPFT with no excess at other places, and fully comp for about £700 (I have zero no claims as only been riding since 08/2010) so I now need to change insurer. 2 annoying points about this. Firstly, I won't get a no claims bonus from my current insurer as I'll be cancelling mid-term. That means I'm another 12 months from a slight drop in premiums. The second even more annoying point is that to cancel the policy, it will COST ME! It's only £18.97, but I paid for the full year up front! That means that not only do I not get the benefit of the cover for the next 4 months, I also get the pleasure of paying an additional amount for this privilege! I'm tempted to let the insurance run and then I'll at least get a year's no claims in August/September. Any advice anyone?! ![]() |

The only problem is that the policy they have on offer is over twice the price as a new policy I can buy somewhere else, so even if they could honour the months I have with them, I'd pay through the nose for it.
I've seen a 1989 50cc scooter on Gumtree for £50. I might buy it and switch my insurance to that instead TPO, and then I'll probably get a refund and also in a few months I'll get 1 years no claims and can ask my new insurer to apply that to my GSXR policy mid-term. |

Im not into swinton really, this is my first year with the bike they were the cheapest by quite a bit, but when i told them i kept it at my brothers which is a leeds postcode they charged me £100 more because its a higher risk area, fair enough i thought, then my brother moved house to a wakefield postcode, so i rang them to say theres a change in the address, and they charged me £25 for that, so then i thought as seen as the bikes back in a wakefield postcode it should be £100 cheaper for the year.. They said it may be at renewal. so basically im kinda £125 down, and all they ever seem to do is ring me trying to get me to get life insurance which covers me for basically every / any accident accept if its bike related because im under 25..
Swinton dont seem the best imo. Danny |
