Default SV650 K4 thrown rod - which other year engines fit?

Hello all, firstly I’m new to the SV650, and would appreciate some advice .I have an SV k4 model with a thrown con rod low mileage 14k and full history .I would be interested to know if this is common and why?, engine number p507- 134195 it’s injection as you probably all know .I would like to know which engines are interchangeable with this bike. I have seen a low mileage v/strom one for sale but don’t really know if it will fit without any power loss/modification
ie is the power output from mapping or valves and cams? .Naturally if anyone has one let me know .thanks

In normal use the SV engine is pretty darn reliable.

The most likely reason for con-rod failure is oil starvation resulting in high rates of bearing wear. This can occur for several reasons:

a) Poor maintenance
b) Wheelies
c) Oil pump failure

There is a chance that someone might have over-revved the engine by changing down at high speed, but usually that's accompanied by wrecked plastics where it's chucked them off.

Hopefully one of the real experts will be along to comment on which engines will fit your frame/ecu.

Keith.

You can if you change down to many gears and let the clutch out with the road speed to high, the rev limiter only works when accelerating not when decelerating.

Some K3/4s were prone to throwing rods, dunno why.

wasn't the K3/4 that had a faulty batch of un rev limited ECU's?

Could well be, also the first of a new conrod design.

very true. Happens with most motors and bikes (things go wrong)
