Default SV K3 speed sensor

HI Guys, Can anyone tell me if a speed sensor needs calibrating when a different one has been fitted. I have just put in a speed sensor from a K6 into my K3, but it appears to be reading much faster than it should be, I was told by a dealer that the part numbers were the same for both year models, so I didn't expect any problems. Cheers, bertieburnett

they are not the same. your dealer has sold you the wrong part. as far as i'm aware k3-5 are different from k6> where k5 are a right pain as it could be either.

take it back and ask him to order the correct part.

the K3 is a 4 pulse unit if my memory serves me right, the k4 onwards are 8 pulse units.
There is a thread on it on here somewhere

EDIT: Biblo has got the right dates for the sensors (i think)
Anyways, ain't the K3 Sensor the same as the curvies??

up to K5 you want part number: 34983-21E00 (inner magnet)

K5 onwards you want part number: 34983-27G00 (inner magnet)

the complete assembly's are the same part number but you must get the 34983-21E00 (inner magnet) yes this causes a lot of confusion with dealers.

So what would happen if you did fit a speed sensor, say from a K7, to a K3 bike? Are speed sensors easily damaged in crashes? I crashed my K3 but will shortly be getting a new front end (thanks Bibio! ), so I was just wondering.

the speedo will read double.. its cool doing 180 on an sv lol.

the magnet bit from the K3 should be ok just to put into the pickup part on the front wheel which should sort it out. they are notoriously fragile though so it might have broken.

Ha! That would keep my speed down lol

What happens in the worst case scenario of a broken magnet etc?

about £25 for a magnet. the drives themselves are pretty tough.

Ahh I see, are they fairly easy to get hold of?
