i have had a "sensitive" tooth for a while now, i went to the dentist at work (army) and it turns out i have a cracked tooth right up to the root, now i need 2 lots of root canal and a cap (going to try and get a gold one) my question is does anyone know how much this would cost if i got it done elsewhere?

I was quoted on NHS at £195 for a cap. Not sure how much private would be, probably more!

well my gf works at a private dentist and she has said that it would need an extraction if its fractured all the way to the root
![]() as its private, her surgery would charge £400 for the root canal and £600 for the crown. her boss has a lovely car.... haha |

he has told me it goes up to the bottom of the root ie the nearest part to the outside of the tooth (if that makes sense), how long does a cap last too, i only have 3 years left in the army and i dont want lots of bills replacing a cap

all dentists do a different guarantee, NHS should be a lifetime but in the real world they usually last about 10 years ish.

I don't have any luck with crowns, they normally go in about 3 months. My dentist has given up doing them for me.
Have it whipped out and an implanted fitted. If the army wont cover that, just get it bridged.

I have cracks in four of my molars, all the same ones each side top and bottom. Dentist doesn't wanna take them out until they're really bugging me because he said they'll keep needing to be replaced over my lifetime and it's best to keep my one's for as long as possible, so this thread is of interest to me too

I joined the RN in 77, I leave in 2012, probably...I would suggest that you make use of the Army dental facilities whilst you've got them - that's what they're there for. My personal experience with RN dental facilites (with some of the surgeons not always drawn from RN sources) has, I have to say, been very positive. I will doubtless miss this benefit severly as I gnaw my way into old age with ever crumbling gnashers. ![]()
