Default GSXR, won't rev - secondary throttles?

GSXR 600. 10.000 miles.

Me and the girls went for a ride yesterday evening. After stopping off I went back to the bike and it started as normal. But the red indicator light stayed on and FI starting flashing. I shut the bike off and re started it and the same thing, during idle the bike sounded fine...
I tried to rev it and it wont pass 8K RPM's. I removed the negative cable on the battery thinking that would reset the light, but it didnt...

On the ride home the bike runs fine but only as I'm below 8K. If I ease the throttle open the rpms will gently raise up past 8k. Tried opening the throttle all the way, n the bike hesitates as if I'm bouncing off the rev limiter but at 8K rpms

After pulling things apart, I saw that the butterflies was closed which explains why I couldnt rev past 8000 RPM's. I've read somewhere that you can just remove the secondary butterflies, but this is what I have done.

Instead of removing the butterflies, they are now in the open position. However the C28 code is still there which is supposed to be since I never really solved the problem. I ran the bike through the gears and it now goes to the rev limit instead of just cutting off at 8Krpms. and it does this regardless of the throttle position (WOT, 3/4 throttle, whatever)

My question is: will riding the bike like this damage anything? As need it it to commute...

I do plan to get the problem properly resolved on next pay check, but can I ride the bike like this for a short time without any worries?

If it's running fine you can probably ride it without damaging anything.

What did you do to the butterflies? Lock them open or just move them? Could be a bad STV servo/pot or bad wire. Or sh*tted up linkage/shaft

Hmmm I believe the c28 code is the secondary throttle valve actuator error, so as Chris says it could well be the actuator or it's feed, still red lights are red for a reason, I'd want to confirm that before saying it was OK to ride about like that for any length of time.

Cheers Mark.

Just had a quick look on www.gixerjunkies.com search of the site says the same.

I'm not going to comment any further as I dont know, but I would ask the same question on www.gixerjunkies.com as you'll more than likely get a better answer on there than on here.
