well im doing a bit of work for on of my gf's work colleague just general bike maintenance but hes said that i can take his bike for a ride well his bikes a 09 r1 with cross plain crank would love to own one....

now when he first said ride i though just round the block maybe sort of thing, but no hes said i can take it on a track day.

now iv never been on a track before would it be totaly stupid to take the r1 (got less than 2k on the clock) i think id have to get insurance for it some how

so do you think i should take it or am i just going to kill my self

Dont do it! I have seen soooooooo many shineys all smashed up by people on there first track day on there very new bikes. Dont bother with track day insurance costs soooooooo much its insane, just ride the track on something you dont mind binning whilst you learn

Track riding is way different to road riding

Not a chance, when you start talking about bikes that cost £10K+ it's not worth having a go on it unless it's in a dealer... and it's defo not worth letting someone have a go if it's your own bike.

I personally think he's a bit nuts.

When I went from my CBR600RR to my R1 it was a big step up in terms of power and speed. SV to R1 on a track would be a bit crazy.

Don't do it. He might be willing to let you use it and nicey nice now, but if you do spill I reckon it'd be a different story!

I never see point in using an unfamiliar bike on track tbh.

Wouldn't be so sure on that. Some garages say 25 now.
