Default email spam - advice please

I have had the same e mail address for many years.
I have tried to keep it spam free by restricting where I have given it out, and by having a second address which I change regularly to use when I suspect I might attract spam.
However the B------s have found me and my "Clean" account is now filling up with the crap.

Is there anything I can do, or am I stuck with changing the address and all the attendent hassels?

Whats your mail account type, google mail, yahoo, hotmail etc? There will be filters you can apply I know that much and you can get spam sent to junk, block and delete.

We're all afraid of change Seedy but gogglemail was a revelation to me! If there aren't 'unsubscribe' links in the spam and you don't have filters available then moving is the only answer.

googlemail is good if you're looking for a change.

Isn't google one of the search engines that note what you've googled and directs marketing based on your searches to your emails ?

Thanks for the replies.

The account I want to keep is a hotmail one.
I set it up in the days when hotmail was one of the few web based accounts.

I have set up all the filters to the best of my ability, I am getting about 50 mails a day diverted to junk, but still 20-30 getting through.

I guess I have to accept that the account has reached the end of its and set up a google mail account.

Hotmail I thought was one of the poorest for its spam filters, one reason I don't use it.

Googlemail or Gmail like the others have said is very good, I don't even get much on my AOL account.

Don't know what you've called your hotmail address, but not using your name & surname is a goodway of avoiding spam, as the spam generators use automatic name generators to send out spam. So Fredsmith@hotmail.com wouldn't be a good choice. However Seedy100@hotmail.com would be better. Thats how I understand it, I might be wrong

Substitute numbers like 1,3,4,5,6,8,0 for letters I,E,A,S,G,B,O and spam never finds you
Johnsmith becomes j0hnsm1th for example.
