Default Curvy velocity stacks

Last night while a fettlin the SV in the garage I happened upon my spare set of SV carbs and looking at the bell mouths thought "they're terrible". They fit with a gap/groove, start nicely radiused but then go all pete tong with a straight section.

So I was thinking has anyone played with modifying or replacing them[1]?

I'm tempted to order some suitable sized alloy, fire up the L5 and see if I can make some replacements.

[1] I know you can get aftermarket ones for the EFI SV's.

Nothing wrong with a straight section after the radius; providing the radius is large enough it will have negligible affect on airflow.

I take it you're not actually seen what's on the SV carbs then...

In another life, i helped out at Renegade and part of thier Airkit Development. Part of this was the stacks. Jorge produced about 30-40 sets of different lengths, radiui etc. I can not remember the optimum, but they where shorter than the standard but did require a different filter and different jets. So you can improve them but in reality, i had the kit on my SV for a couple of years. It did improve the midrange i must admit

Its one of those things that something can be bad on purpose to give a spread of power and changing it to be better can make things way too peaky etc.

I was at the same time looking at the air box and how little room it actually took up considering what it could be. Seeing as from your experience the jetting will need changing I think the fibreglass may have to make an appearance and I'll make a far larger airbox while I'm at it.
