Default Tyre Weights

Having tried to find info on just how much tyres weigh as it can effect a bikes performance, I'd thought that I would start a new thread on the subject.

I hope this is of use to some people and that you add in your own details and mods feel free to sticky.

Just received my new rubber.

Pirelli Angels

Front 120/70/17 = 4.18kg

Rear 170/60/17 = 6.52kg

As measured on calibrated scales at work.

Default Re: Tyre Weights

Sorry don't know where the link is but Michelin did a weight comparison a couple of years ago

Many things to consider when comparing, compound ,wall bracing, flexing etc.
Manufacturers generally recommend a tyre that is suited to the bike and yes there are different manufacturers within tyre ranges and sizing with options for the buyer.
The combined weight of rider and bike influences handling, for instance a lightweight sports tyre with exceptional performance fitted on a medium weight tourer will have a lot of sidewall flex and may not be the optimum tyre for the bike.
Does a lighter tyre benefit in such a case?. Newer premium tyres are going towards kevlar bracing as against steel which can reduce the overall weight of a set of tyres by a couple of pounds so it is well worthwhile doing a bit of research into compound and make-up before spending your brass
