Default Hello and help.

Firstly, hello to all on this board. I have just bought my first SV so expect many questions from myself asking for technical help on my bike!

My first issue is thus:
Bought the bike a couple of weeks ago, got it through its MOT this weekend after having a new rear tyre fitted and so was looking forward to opening her up and seeing what the bike is really like.
Well 0-60s good, not amazing but ok (i have previously had a Bandit 600 and a Diversion 600 so my comparisons are based on these) and I love the lazy engine tone (compared to a four). Perhaps the twins are a bit slower than there four cylinder counterparts?
60-80 is passable 80 up is quite poor and I think I would need a runway to finally see a ton!

So my question is this:
Why the slow performance? Is my bike restricted? If so how would I check or what else might be the issue?

Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

Sorry I should have mentioned, its a '99 model.

Is it easy to check if it has the restriction fitted? I'm assuming that the same method is always used when they are restricted?

for the '99 yes it would be washers in the carbs to restrict flow of fuel and air, as to removing them... dunno, look for a online guide to fitting a restrictor kit, then follow till you get to the add the washers bit. if they are already there it's restricted

just had a nosey around for you as i'm bored
there are washers that go in between the carbs and ports on the engine, they would be there if at all

Surely they must be there? As mentioned before should easily get a ton and have easily had 130'ish out of it on the A303. Granted it was peaking but wasn't labouring up to the speed?

Heya btw and welcome

I have had a '99 600 divvy, that I rode both restricted and full power before i bought my sv, the SV should be quicker 0-60, like a noticable difference. The Divvy isnt really that quick for a 600 four, and I'm afraid I cant comment on the Blandit. So I would imagine your SV to be restricted, and the lack of top speed sounds very similar to when I had the restricted Divvy. Got to 80 nicely then took ages to reach a ton.

Hmm, well hopefully it is restricted at least then it will be an easy fix. I had a quick look around the site for info on derestricting but only found details on swapping out the official suzuki restrictor kit. Hopefully mine will be the other method as that looked quite involved and expensive! Would the washer kit be the 'F1' restrictor?

Should just be a case of removing the carbs, taking out the washers then re-assembling, took me all of half an hour on my divvy (also carbs), though i didnt have to remove the tank which you may need to on t SV to get to the carbs.

Silly question,
If its been restricted then it should not get to a ton...
can you get past a ton ?. even slowly, then IMO it's not been restricted ..

AND a big welcome........
