Default Any recommendations for a B&B around the borders?

I'm coming back on the overnight boat from IJmuiden to Newcastle, arriving in the morning on the 26th August. Looking to spend a couple of nights somewhere in the borders (or a little higher). Any recommendations? Will be a B&B/Hotel as won't have camping gear.

Any good roads I should try and do wouldn't go amiss either

If you're coming West, try the Buccleuch Arms Hotel, Moffat.

Abbotsford Arms, Galashiels if you're staying East.

I've not stayed in either - too close to where I live - but they're both apparently "biker friendly".

As for roads to try in the southerrn half of Scotland Northern England

A708 Selkirk - Moffat.
A702 Elvanfoot - Carronbridge
A689 Brampton - Alston
A686 Alston - Penrith
B6277 Alston - Barnard Castle

I don't really know many B&B's in that area but it would be nice if you could do me a favour and try Tibbie Shiels Inn on the A708. (ach its worth a try innit) I'm looking for an opinion on it viablity for a group stop.

If you just want someplace to sleep look at the SYHA site.

I highly recommend the Burnbank hotel in Twynholm if you're heading that way. Done a few long weekend rides down there staying the night there and it is brilliant service. The food is unbeatable. Get the steak pie

oh and you can visit the David Coulthard museum which is 20 yards up the road

Big +1 for the Buccleugh - owned by a family of bikers (a couple of whom I happen to know), and they're perfectly situated for a few days exploring D&G, Borders, Lothian etc areas.

Happy to give you a few pointers re. roads round here too, just ask if required.

Cheers guys, food for thought for where to head to. Will have a look at that one at Moffat. Anywhere that isn't south towards home is being considered at the moment

Did this in the pouring rain on the way back down after the additional days up for the GM. Then turned off on the B6276 towards Kirkby Stephen. Was enjoyable despite not being able to see very much in front of me!

And thanks for the heads up on the run on the 28th, if I stay up till the Monday I reckon I'll be able to make it wherever I end up staying.

Christoff its another thumbs up for Buccleuch in Moffat from me, ate there with Regency Mike before GM and with Hong on the way back. Nice place, good food and Moffats quiet but not too quiet if you know what I mean! Oh and when we were there, the local talent all seemed to be in the Black Bull round the corner so i'd suggest going there of an evening

I'd suggest this to get there (not done the road through Kielder but my Dad recommended it) and if you can get the B6277 in there, both ways if possible do it! Its an awesome road and better heading in the direction of Alston IMO. Once you're at Moffat, as long as you're on the A702 you'll be happy as a pig in sh!t

Like I said, if it wasn't for Creamfields i'd be tagging along!
