Hi,
Someone I know has just sold his SV and bought a ZX6-R. Out of interest, just did a quote on one, quote came out at £9941. My SV renewal's just come up, £240. I know the insurance group is more, and it's an all out sports bike, but they can't be THAT different surely? It only has ~35hp more. |

Suppose, it just seems madness for it to be that much more expensive, if you get me. I've been riding for nearly three years now! Not as long as others granted but I'm over the first 'step' so to speak.

I just nearly fell over when I read that. I just insured my SV, it cost £71.15 ttft. I'm 43 with 3 years no claims straight off a 125 onto the 650. Makes me glad I'm getting on a bit.

because if you get on a zx6 and ride it like your sv, flat out etc you will bin it very quickly. They are stupid quick if you let them rev and the first time i let mine go i nearly shat myself. I suspect this is why they cost silly money to insure over the much friendlier road usable sv.

Have a look at the daytona 600, look great, more bhp, IL4 and insurance very close to the SV. Considering selling my SV for one!

Mine was 75 for sv and same for cbr600. One of the few advantages of being a middle-aged housewife

Depends on bike, not necessarily engine format, although as IL4 generally have more power they are in higher insurance groups. If you compared something like an RSV, RC8 etc you'll find them expensive too.
When I was shopping around, did quotes on all IL4s which I fancied. From most expensive to least: Daytona 675 Zx6r CBR 600rr Gsxr 600 Gsxr 750 All bikes were c.2006-2008 and similar values. |
