Afternoon chaps,
New to the forum and joined as I am thinking of buying an sv650. Hope you don't mind me joining and firing questions out but I want to understand more about the bike before I make a purchase. To give a little history, I currently ride a 1999 triumph sprint st and last night test rode a nice 2003 sv650. Like the bike, but I was concerned about how snatchy the throttle was. It was literally on/off. A quick search on here showed a few things can be done such as cable adjustment and tps reset. I did notice there seemed to be no free play in the throttle of the one i test rode. However will it always be fairly snatchy, and if so does the sv make a decent commuting/town bike? Thanks in advance Quick |

did it have a throttle mod which seems to be quite common with memeber on here, which reduces the amount of throttle turn.
And as far as commuting i use mine every day all weathers and my commute involves the A14 a ring road, through town and some twisty roads. IMO it is a great bike for town and commuting, nice and light, can have some fuun even on a commute. Comfortable and reliable! |

How doo!
Sounds like its got a throttle mod, or more likely requires the Throttle bodies balanced and the cables oiled or replaced. I use mine in most weathers and in traffic and it never misses a beat

I'm new to bikes and never ridden anything other than an SV, but could it just be the difference between a tripple and a twin? Bit less forgiving?

There are lots of SVs out there at bargain prices - test ride another to compare.
It makes a really good commuter as it's so slim and light - great for traffic filtering and open roads plus I get around 70mpg on a commute. Throttle should be progressive and smooth above 3000 rpm, rough below this. |

I have a K3 and it has a very smooth throttle response (even when not restricted) and excellent manners when undergoing slow control and town riding.
I would suggest trying another bike just in case the one you tried had a fault or had been played with. |
