Default Different models, sport etc?

hi all, im looking at getting an sv as my first bike sometime in the near future but im a bit confused by the different models and how to tell the difference between them , i think im mainly talking about the 'S' version and 'SPORT' versions etc, am i right to think that an '03' and onward sport model has a sportier riding position that a non sport 03, or does sport just refer to fairings and stuff, any basic info or links would be greatly appreciated,
P.S. im guessing no one here has negative views to an sv as a first bike but if you do please tell me why so i can make the right decision, i dont have any experience apart from learning by the way but im 30 and sensible for what its worth, oh and a man if that makes any difference
thanks for any help

The SV's made from 03 onwards are the K series and go year by year (K3 03, K4 04 etc etc). They are also fuel injected, the previous models are carbs.
You have SV650 (n) SV650s and sv650 sport
Standard SV650 has no fairing, one piece handlebars, 7" circular headlight
the S model has bikini fairing and clip on bars
the sport (i think) has a seat cowl over the pillion seat and a few other cosmetic changes, essentially the same as the S model.
What year/model are you looking at?

hi guys , thanks for the replies, so there is no difference in riding position with the sport daddy? im not really biased to any model or year i like the look of them all, im hoping to keep price down to 1500 max so not a huge choice from what i can see on the internet, just gona get the best lowest mileage i can find probably. ive got all my gear ready to go i bought it all for my lessons , i got textile due to money but theyre waterproof so will be good for the winter hopefully and nice helmet ready to go , thought i may aswell fork out for them for the lessons as id have had to do it before i could use my bike anyway

the s is more of a sporty riding position, leant forward towards the bars. It will be good if you go and sit on the different models and find one that you like the seating position of

ye will do, gota sell the car first for cash but could still go for a test ride i suppose, i just dont want to find the perfect bike and not be able to buy it, would be like self inflicted torture. any guess as to what i should try to get for 1500, is mileage much of an issue with older SV's or do they go forever

you'll be surprised what you can get for the money. As with anything with an engine it is all how it has been looked after.
I got 2 Sv650's K3, one an S the other an N. Both for around £1500. Got to be prepared to be patient and haggle. A lot of second hand Sv's are over priced-especially the curvy's. You can get a K3 or K4 for around £1500. They'll be a bit scruffy appearence wise, but they clean up quite easy and there's a big market of second hand parts and body work

ye your right about being patient thats why im starting looking and getting info before ive even got the money so i can see what sort off bargains pop up and what i can try to aim for.
i know most new riders drop them so looks isnt really something that bothers me will just make it more painless if it gets dropped, and probably more confident if im not worried about dropping it so a good running k3 or4 could be on the cards. time for bed for me thanks very much for the info hopefully il be able to get something soonish, will just have to hope for a couple of days of tidy weather over the winter then, thanks again,
