The speedo on the sv keeps jumping up and down from 60 to 40 and back up again etc no noticable loss of power and battery connections appear fine any ideasss? Cheers

My pointy has a magnet that sits in the front wheel, if the tabs break off of this, it gives false readings. |

It sound like the speedo drive is fubar'd.
Do the speedo drive test in the haynes and the workshop manual.

sorry should have said its a curvy 2000 hope its not expensive ha will try the drive test as long as its easy enough

have a look on this site, type in the search part number 34983-21E00, just over £21, the magnet is cylindrical with four tabs and located on the lefthand side of the front wheel within the housing on the axle.
although this is likely to be the cause, it's worth checking the main electrical plug, this can be found behind the headstock, lift the tank, remove the airbox and right at the front you'll find two multi plugs, one green and the other clear/white; the clear/white three wire one is the one to check as the pins can require a clean if water ingress has occurred. Cheers Mark will have a look tomorrow when it is a bit lighter. Hope it is the connetion cheaper and easier but suppose £21 isnt that bad thanks Ryan

As Ralph says, broken speedo drive. take the front wheel of and look at the drive, you will probably see the 4 tabs on the drive snapped off. there £2-£3 from main dealer.. takes literlly seconds to swap then just be carful when putting the frot wheel back on that you dont catch the 4 tabs.HTH
