Default Running machines

Wondering about getting a running machine (running late at night when I've got home from work and it's cold outside, I find the cold air hurts my chest).
Do many running machines have a program where the incline varies as you run, so more like a real-world run?

thanks

Please tell me there is one. I am limited to the cross trainer in the garage at the moment as it is too dark to run at 5:30am.

Depends how much you want to spend I guess.

Mate look into cybex gym equipment-the treadmill i use at work has numerous programs with adjustable incline/decline-there pricey but the quality is by far better than your high street shop carp

I think they're really pricey if you want a decent one, might be better to join a gym and have access to other equipment as well. I run better in this climate, I like the cold air/temp for some reason.

That's interesting , thanks chaps.
I had a look on the John Lewis web site because I thought it'd be honest but didn't really get a good understanding of the features.
I guess a gym would become more expensive quite quickly if I got a cheap one but it seems that running machines can be very expensive as well.
I wonder what the normal boredom threshold is for these things - I.e. how long after christmas would I have to wait until I could get a 2nd hand bargain?

Thanks

Keep your eye on ebay, I got a decent Nordic Track one for £120, different programmes (including a few heart rate controlled programmes) and even has iFit so you can buy different cards with different routines on (mine came with a few cards and a heart monitor). Horizon stuff is usually ok, bought one for less than £100 but couldn't arrange a suitable time to collect it so had to buy a different one.

There's some bargains to be had, just make sure you research the models to see if they're any good before you bid.

They are usually quite expensive until the weather starts to get better as although people get bored of them easily, there are plenty on the look out for one.

Thanks Phil.
I'll keep an eye on eBay as you suggest.
