Unhappy My PS3 is dead...

My 4+ year old ps3 is dead or in a coma at least

Went off last night after 10 mins of gaming with the dreaded 3 beeps and then flashing red light, it doesnt sound like the YLOD common problem so looking at the stuff on the net about it looks like it may be the psu which is about £15 to replace or you can get a refurbed console from sony for £140.

Its proper p*ssed me off, i didnt use it for 2 months and ive started using it more again and it goes pop.
Tbh, i think its placement near to my projector probably hasnt helped it, i noticed the fan ran higher after prolonged use.

If anybody has repaired or had this same fault id appreciate some input.

Finally if any Xbox owners give me any sh*t ill stab you in the eye with my rusty screwdriver so dont even think about it.

Tons of places that do PS3 repairs, probably cost you £40 or so.

Read a lot about sub standard repairs tbh so ill probably have a go myself first.

I'd be tempted to get a refurbed one from Sony, comes with a warranty and look brand new apparently.

Btw mr numbers, it is a fatty, I got it not long after they came out.

I sorted my own out when that happened to me and my hands are as delicate as a sledgehammer. Its fairly simple to follow with one of the kits on ebay, I may still have the instructions somewhere at home

Good I've heard the fatty's have a much worse failure rate, and the one's i've touched have always been ridiculously hot and sounding like a 747.

What are the refurbed ones? You can get a 320gb slim online at the mo for £185 or a 160gb slim for £170

Haven't they done away with the card slots on the new ones, I like mine

It's the first sony console that's ever broke on me as well, my ps1 and 2 still work fine. I'm convinced it's where it's been sitting, it used to be in my other room but had to move it.

I read last night while researching this problem that the new ones have been slim lined by removing the memory card slots, mine has sd and the Sony pro slots on the front.

Beabert, don't be tempted
