On the news tonight. The BMA want a ban on smoking in cars to protect children and non-smoking adults from passive smoke. The Government is thinking about it; the Welsh Assembly is planning on having a ban in place in the next 3 years.
I will own up to being a smoker, BUT, I'd like to think I'm a considerate smoker, along with the vast majority of other smokers: I've never smoked in the car when there were other people with me, especially my kids. When I want a fag at home I go out in the garden. I don't smoke in other people's homes, cars or even their gardens unless they say OK. And I don't flick my butts everywhere, they go in a bin or ashtray or drain. I was living the smoking ban before it ever happened. But for FFS the only place I can sit down, be warm and poison myself is in the car. I can't even smoke at a cricket match unless I go and stand in the naughty corner where you can't see the match. This is PC gone mad. Who is going to pay for all the "Car Smoking Police" that would be required to enforce it? Discuss. I would hope a lively debate will now ensue.. |

As a non smoker I not a fan of the smell of them, BUT im not one to complain about them, it never stopped me drinking in pubs before the ban, or going out of my way to avoid it.
Yeah i does p1ss me off when folk in the street will wave them in your face or the smoke following someone, but its outside in public, so I just deal with it, but yeah PC gone utter mad, these days we have to wrap the kids in cotton wool, not say the wrong thing, say the un pc joke, where does it end?!!! |

I AM AN EX-Smoker...but rather than hate smoking I still like the smell of the first puff someone takes!
However I hate seeing fat people smoking in their cars with their kids! Smokers remind me of why I gave up too! |

Well, I support a ban, but not because of passive smoking...although I do hate seeing people smoke in cars with children in the back.
I smoked as a teenager. Dropping a cigarette on my lap as a passenger left me feeling pretty stupid. If I had been driving, god knows what could have happened or how many people could have been hurt or worse. Just today I saw someone light up and have to have both hands off the wheel to change gear. |

We must do a pic swap as we seem to have identical bikes.
Though mine is about to be fitted with an after-market ashtray since Suzuki don't do them ![]() |

Smoking in vans and commercial vehicles is already banned however I have never heard of anyone being given a ticket (i drive a van).
Therefore a further ban will no doubt be enforced any further than it already is. |

I should add...I am not a member of the PC brigade...far from it, but a ban on using our mobiles when driving was for the safety of all, I think same applies to smoking while driving. I don't think it is as dangerous, but I also don't see why it is so important a thing to be able to do. Just have one next time you stop?

What you in your own private motorcar is your own business and nobody else's, whats next banning smoking in your own home.
Its a step to far IMHO and I'm a non ( well most of the time ) smoker.

A couple of points,
1 My wife has her own car and often sits in it outside to enjoy her fag rather than smoke in the house. 2 Anyone know of the effects of the lingering pollutants, they must be there I can smell them. My personal view is that its about time we all grew up and took responsibility for our own actions and those in our care. We all know the dangers of smoking and I don't have any friends or family who smoke in the car with their children present.

I don't smoke. I haven't smoked for over 6 years. I don't condone smoking in a car with kids in it..........however, FFS if their ain't any kids in it, and theres adults who are pretty much in the mind of DILLIGAF, whose business is it to turn round and ban them
Nobodies. It won't be long before people can't do anything in their own homes unless some nosey ar$e says so....or indeed outside their own back door.
